Enforcement & By-Law Services - Standing Water
West Nile Virus is a potentially serious illness transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito.
To avoid attracting mosquitoes Property Standards will investigate reports of stagnant, standing, or pooling water or pond water on private property (including commercial and industrial properties).
Examples of places water will stagnate:
- Discarded tires
- Ornamental and real ponds
- Rain barrels
- Bird baths
- Buckets
- Pool covers
- Unopened or not maintained pools
- Vacant farmland
- Vacant land in sub-divisions
Property Standards will investigate to determine weather there is live larva in the water.
- If larva is present the Officer will contact the Region of Peel to do a dip test.
- Positive results will be dealt with by our contractor draining the subject area.
Peel Health has a prevention and control plan, you may:
- Call the Region at 905-799-7700
- Mon-Fri 8am-5pm
- Sat-Sun 10am-5pm
